Respondents Answers (CNTL-F to search)
1858645 Real sports store (never mind about EVERYTHING being fair play let’’s just play!) Real bagel store (sorry Greg)Chuck and Daves!
1858649 a GOOD bakery and coffee shop, book store, Takoma theatre should start showing some movies or have live music. A dance hall!!!
1858661 Hardware, Trader Joes
1858664 Leathergoods
1858670 wine shop cheese store home brewing ingredients for beer/wine making
1858685 stationery/newsstand/office supplies/books
1858691 bookstore
1858693 Bookstore
1858715 Coffee House where I could meet up with the other local moms Large affordable grocery store within walking distance Eye doctor Pub
1858724 recorded music storebookstore
1858797 books, office supplies
1858831 Again, only if these offered high quality goods we don’’t need mediocre merchandise or service.
1858836 Book Store
1858839 Full-size grocery storeLarge home improvement retailer on New HampshireTarget on New Hampshire
1858844 Book store
1858868 Food stores
1858872 deli
1858875 Watch repair
1858877 hardware, office supplies, sewing supplies, artsupplies, books
1858883 hardware, grocery, books
1858909 Hardware store (though, in fairness, between PineyBranch hardware and Strosniders, we’’re pretty wellserved a short drive away). My main point is that Takoma Park has too many of thesame type of antique/jewelry/gift stores but lackssome more practical, neighborhood-friendly options.
1858929 newsstand/book/card store
1858939 Toy store book store
1859048 ?
1859082 Bookstore (a la late, lamented Chuck Dave’’s)Sundries (a branch of Bethesda’’s Bruce Variety would be a godsend!)
1859148 Toy storeUsed book storeQuality beer wine storeHardwareArt gallery
1859152 (Used) bookstore, kids clothes,
1859153 It would be great to have a good bakery, although Iwonder if a baker would make it in TP with thecompetition from (poor quality) places like Savory, and the co-op. I would like a quality pizza place that is capable ofdoing delivery!I would like to see a ready-meal takeout place (withthe kinds of prepared foods you can get at Whole Foods).A Radio Shack would be excellent.A large indoor play center for kids, with many moonbounces.I think a Starbucks should open in the now-closed drycleaners on Maple Ave near Sherman.
1859163 Book store. Good dry cleaner (I don’’t consider the current options good.)
1859168 bakery with great crusty whole grain bread
1859174 Book Store
1859176 Bookstore!
1859178 Medium sized grocery store on DC side or in Old Town, which could include a good butcher and fresh seafood store. Small hardware store.
1859191 I value Takoma Park because it isn’’t like other placesthat have these things. No congestion, no hugeparking lots, no crowds. I would much rather travel15 min to Silver Spring to do my shopping andrestaurant visits and preserve Takoma Park as apleasant place to *live* and look at.
1859192 hardware,thrift store
1859198 Hardware, though there may be too much competition. There was a garden shop 2 years ago, but it didn’’t even sell plants.
1859201 Very much AGAINST having a butcher in Takoma Park. Would like to see a bakery like Sticky Fingers: www.StickyFingersBakery.com or Babycakes: www.babycakesnyc.com Note that I am against extensive development in Takoma Park. Takoma Park’’s greatest charm is its livability and character. Hope new shops would open in existing buildings.
1859206 Bookstore, Coffee House, Hardware store
1859208 Bookstore, specifically an independent Politics and Prose would be fabulous
1859209 wide ion of pet food
1859210 Pet supply, but not selling live animals
1859217 Hardware
1859238 Wine/Cheese shop
1859310 Producewhy not bring the farmer’’s market inside for year-round service, either literally or in the form of a fresh/local produce shop?
1859323 card shop, childrens’’ toys/clothes, fair-trade gifts
1859325 None of those.
1859330 I find there are no decent stores in Takoma Park. A good toy store would be great and a good bookstore with children section (!!!!). There are tons of kids here and there there are no decent stores with kids stuff.
1859336 1. Very good hair salon (Tony and Guy, Ipsa)2. Very good shoe store, not shoe repair3. Really nice antique store. This one, with appraisals or information on old houses, would be particularly good for here. 4. Old house store (like Restoration Hardware).I think you have to think of a non-Silver Spring niche. I think going more quotupscalequot or going more quotoldscalequot might be better than going more downscale.
1859337 wine shop
1859339 (I miss ChuckDave’’s...)
1859341 Fish market.
1859343 Hardware store (like Fragers on SE Penn or something specializing in needs of historic property owners)
1859344 independent bookstore,
1859346 Grocery store. Larger Co-op, needlework, bookstore
1859348 Hardware/houseware
1859349 wine/liquor store, gourmet/cheese store
1859351 wine store, grocery
1859357 Purple Mtn. Organics is already great for gardening so I hope it stays. As for baking, a place that made fresh bread, including pita might do well. I travel to Mediterranean Bakery in Alexandria, VA to buy fresh pita bread. Maybe Middle East Market wants to expand (?).
1859359 bookstore combined with record store, with a coffeeshop, comfy chairs and place to play pool. Need to doa survey to find out a good specialty niche for thekinds of books and records,so not competing with thebig chains. If right niche is found could pull inpeople from farther afield than Takoma Park. I thinksuch a place would do fine since the collection atBorders in SS is pretty much bottom of the barrel massmarket dreck.
1859360 Hardware store, book store, craft stores, women’’sclothing, good thrift store, Target or Walmart pharmacy
1859361 Sports store or consumer electronics... preferably a chain
1859363 Kids learning/play space like a minature version of the Baltimore Science museum kids area.
1859371 Book store
1859374 Hardware Store
1859380 hardware store
1859385 women and childrens boutique
1859386 Book/coffee shop (like Politics Prose) day spa (not just haircut place, but good place to get nails done and massage - would definitely attract outside business) improved flower shop bike store IS great addition, as is pet store
1859389 Hands on childrens’’ quotmuseumquot
1859390 Hardware Store
1859391 photo developing/ digital photo shopSporting goods retail/consignment
1859394 Used book store.Bowling alley/restaurant/bar.Microbrewery. Wine store.
1859396 Bakery for bread only (not another coffee shop)
1859402 Liquor
1859404 Bookstore/coffee shop -Busboys and Poets/ U Street DC- a place that helps develop a sense of community by providing a comfortable atmosphere and a good venue for small events - film screenings, music, poetry, etc...
1859406 coffee store (brew and sell)Housewares
1859407 Book storeSupermarket
1859409 Cheap legal advice.
1859417 It seems like TP would be a good locale for afurniture store selling smaller furniture (avg couchthese days is huge) that would fit well in the smallerhouses in this area (as well as silver spring, hyattsville, etc.) But I may overestimate the demand.
1859419 book store, kids store
1859421 Bethesda bagels, pool parlor/restaurant (Buffalo Billiards) Takoma Park needs some fun places to go at night for the family older kids. Buffalo Billiards would be great!
1859424 A nice bar or coffee shop
1859439 A real supermarket
1859440 tobacco store, grocery store
1859446 hardware books
1859455 used book storecoffee shoptoy store
1859459 Hardware store
1859461 more gift shops
1859465 A less expensive veterinary clinic! Coffee shop that sells books and magazines and stays open late.
1859467 REAL sporting goods store. Men’’s and kids clothes.
1859468 local art, arts crafts, specialty food, hardware store
1859477 a firehook backery would be FANTASTIC. need.good.bread.right.now. and bring back a bookstore, although with borders downtown ss it might not be a viable business.
1859479 anything! i loved pulp when it opened on the hill,it’’s a great gift shop. any higher quality stores thatdon’’t have hideous paper hand-written signs plasteredall over would be welcome. a book store, comparable tovideo americain, with interesting ion. a nicestore like The Forecast to complement amano. a craftor yarn or something store - maybe related to the beadstore... Also, it seems like the stores on one sideof carroll are rarely open, or randomly have theirwindows filled with junk... confusing. Oh also a placelike the fairy godmother at eastern market, or likeBarstons Child’’s Play in chevy chase.
1859482 Comic book store
1859483 Good children’’s bookstore, crafts store, toy store(replace Chuck and Dave’’s)Hardware store
1859487 grocery store, bookstore, toy store
1859492 Grocery store, hardware store, liquor store
1859498 Book StoreToy StoreSports Equipment store (balls, bike stuff, camping gear)
1859501 A grocery store
1859505 dry cleaner, card shop
1859511 fish market, similiar to River Falls Seafood market in Potomac, selling high quality seafood
1859514 A good fishmonger! A real New York delicatessen.
1859517 Wine Store
1859520 Hardware store wine and cheese shop someplace to get some clothing that is appropriate for an office setting. There was a garden shop at Crossings it died. There was an independent bookstore it died. What people say they want and what they support are two different things.
1859528 Book Store (used and new)
1859530 kids stuff
1859534 We also need a really good gun store.
1859540 Hardware storeDelicatessen
1859542 Wild Bird Center/Audubon store maybe a fishmarket/butcher books nice outdoor/sporting clothingwith good quality stuff, children’’s clothing
1859551 I don’’t need any of these. it is just as easy to go to Silver Spring.
1859554 brewpub!!!
1859555 clothing, antiques, art, bookstore
1859559 independent book store, a decent clothing store
1859564 To make it viable you would have to have criticalmass, but it would be nice to have a bunch of shopsand boutiques, some variety. NO MORE VINTAGE CLOTHES.E.g. I often go to the area on Connecticut Ave(Politics and Prose, Child’’s play, Catch Can, andthere are a couple shops there where I get things likenice wrapping paper and some housewears). The parkingthere is much harder than TP but I go anyway. I stillmiss Chuck and Dave’’s. I like the new quotFair Days Playquotbut it will always be limited by size.
1859573 book store and place to eat like Kramer Books and Politics and Prose
1859576 Bookstore Hardware Store or Five and Dime type store
1859577 hardware, books, toys
1859586 excellent coffee
1859589 Wine barBook store
1859595 whatever an entrepreneur wishes to try
1859610 Laundromat
1859618 Microbrewery
1859627 good wine and cheese store, book store, toy store
1859628 Toy Store, Book Store (including used books), liquor store with good wine ion
1859631 Seafood store, bookstore, co-op art gallery for TakomaPark artists, bagel shop, art supplies, fine chocolates, quotgreenquot store with environmently responsible householdproducts, stationary store, green grocer, oldfashioned 510 (not a $ store)food store that featuresreadymade meals to take out.
1859634 A better supermarket than our nearby Giant and Safeway stores. Or else those two supermarkets should get some major renovation.
1859640 Someplace to stop in for milk, bread etc.
1859652 Again, b/c there is so little, I’’d like to see anything, particularly grocery, hardware, dining and more dining, housewares, etc.
1859657 Let’’s face it, we had a garden shop not too long agoand it failed. Unless Takoma Park Residents arewilling to pay a little for more the convenience orthe business can attract other residents they willfail too. NEED PARKING!!!!!!!!
1859660 furniture (e.g. crate barrel), bookstore
1859662 Second-run Movie Theatre Music Club Dance Club
1859679 Bookstore (miss the old kid’’s bookstore/toystore).
1859683 Bars.
1859690 a better coffee shop than savory.
1859693 Good coffee house
1859699 Book store, coffee house
1859710 Hardware, Home computer techBook store, Toy store
1859711 Nail Salon, stationary/office supply/art supply store,Toy store, Bagel place with a little seating (outdoortoo), a ’’Shappy Chic’’ type home funishings shop
1859730 Place to get keys made (like at the shoe repair store).
1859739 yarn/knitting store
1859748 Cafe-premium salads, soups sandwiches. Bird store, shoe shine store, homewares resale, E-bay off store
1859756 Hardware StoreThrift Shop (not vintage store)BarChild’’s Play (local toy store chain that’’s wonderful)Book Store
1859757 recycle center?
1859775 seafood, trader-joe’’s type healthy inexpensive groc, hardware, butcher only if locally grown meat, bookstore
1859780 Restaurants!!!!Book Store Clothing store that isn’’t vintage
1859786 Bookstore
1859789 Jewelry repair shop.
1859792 Hardware store.
1859793 grocery main stream
1859798 Bagel shop
1859799 Bookstore
1859800 hardware, kids clothes, bookstore,
1859802 Take out food such as Chicken Out
1859806 bookstore, cafes, hardware store, blockbuster (I know you want no chain types- but you need some quotnormalquot shops too), theater for art or foreign films, dance or martial arts studio
1859807 hardware store, more vintage/ scond hand stores, neighborhood theatre/ acting classes, specialty beer/wine store
1859814 We need a full size grocery store that we can walk to. It’’s the only way to make Takoma Park a quotwalkablequot community.
1859816 Politics and Prose or 2nd Story Books (but sincebookstores haven’’t made it in the past, I think thisoption may not be feasible).
1859821 wine storecasual clothing jeans, sweaterscraft supply storecard store (greeting cards)
1859824 Bookstore. Toy store. I strongly believe thatdowntown Takoma can support a bookstore with a goodmagazine area and a quality toy area. Chuck andDave’’s could have done very well if it was wellorganized. It was impossible to negotiate. As therecent face lift of the Co-op shows, good storeorganization can make a huge difference. The newCo-op is easy to shop in and I spend twice as muchthere as I used to. Even if Takoma had a chainitcould be a small Borders like the airports have, itwould be nice. Even better would be a small Olsoons, like the one they have at National airport.
1859826 Book store. We sorely miss Chuck Dave’’s from back in the days before it began selling toys.
1859830 Local PharmacyBook Store
1859835 book store
1859836 Bookstore
1859843 Office Supplies
1859848 hardware storebook storeshoe store
1859850 bookstore/coffee shop (NOT big name one like BN or Borders)
1859864 -bars-hardware store-cd shop
1859870 book store
1859871 Anything other than antiques and second hand clothing.
1859872 hardware storekids shoe storegourmet deli (Zingerman’’s like)
1859875 Card shop, Optician, Hair salon or spa
1859880 Book store
1859884 Bagel shop.
1859887 High end coffee/tea cafe and shopToy storewine bar
1859895 pub with no smoking and microbrews
1859896 book store
1859901 Gourmet Deli (Like Zingerman’’s in Ann Arbor)Hardware StoreBookstoreFish storeProduce Market
1859904 (Bakery and Butcher we get via Farmer’’s Market). It’’d have to be a labor of love (because I don’’t thinkit would be profitable) but a great bookstore or evena great toystore would be a draw. The current storeshave a second hand feel that doesn’’t pull me back tovisit multiple times. A good bookstore/toystore (orequivalent) would do that for me.
1859915 kids clothing and shoeskids entertainment or sports or recreation
1859946 if vegan friendly.
1859993 Fine Liquor StoreInside Playground/Kids GymInternet Cafe w/distance learning/teaching rooms andequipment
1860009 hardware, books, but mostly I really want another restaurant - we miss Talionos
1860014 Kids Clothes/Shoes
1860019 Bookstore
1860025 Supermarket!
1860029 How about a computer store? (BTW, the bike store was a GREAT addition.) A yarn store would be nice.
1860049 Hardware store
1860066 GROCERY STORE!!!(a small one would be fine, near theMetro), art supplies, sports club, different kinds ofclothing, hardware store. NO MORE VINTAGE STORES -They take up the space that could be used for thingswe need and now have to get in our cars to drive to.
1860067 Book Store!
1860070 Fresh Veg. supplier
1860071 Trader JoesFirehook Bakery
1860079 A market would be great, such as Brookville inCleveland Park - good meat, veggies, standard foodchoices! If this was in the area we would head to TPmore often AND be more likely to eat there in therestaurants and patronize the shops because we’’d be upthere much more often, vs heading to Silver Spring.Shoe repair and a tailor would be nice too.
1860080 Seafood, green grocer
1860107 hardware store
1860117 Toy store, bookstore, clothing store that sells new (as opposed to used) clothes
1860120 wine and cheesechocolate shop
1860124 I would love to have another book store. I really miss Chuck and Dave’’s. Would be nice to have mixed- use space, maybe bookstore with rotating art exhibits.
1860127 Independent high quality bookstore (ala Politics Prose quality)
1860140 Fabric Store
1860141 Another Chuck n Dave’’s: book store, card store, children’’s toy store art gallery a bakery that opens early (6am) would be great
1860160 Deli, Bagels, Hardware, Chocolates
1860161 Hardeware store, Magazine store, book store
1860169 Starbucks (I know... I know) kids consignment shop Trader Joes bookstore
1860182 book store
1860188 No more used clothing shops something useful.
1860189 bookstorea neighborhood pub
1860191 Wine storetrader joes
1860194 A downtown hardware store, liquor store, gourmet store- most anything would be great!
1860204 motorcycle repair and/or retail
1860205 more Starbucks locations
1860214 clothing
1860222 Music performance space (higher-quality version of Taliano’’s, for example), and independent movie theater.
1860223 An independent bookstore of course, but that is hopeless!
1860227 Great restaurant. Bookstore.
1860238 book store
1860239 All of the above and then some. What we don’’t need are more gift shops and antique stores.
1860242 hardware
1860253 A good Book Store
1860275 Independent book store (still miss Chuck and Dave’’s)Children’’s clothes/shoes Sporting Goods (shoes, soccer gear, etc)Wine Shop!Art/Craft suppliesNO:We get excellent bakery goods at the Coop, hard tocompete with Whole Foods for Butcher, plenty ofjewelry available in our gift shops although jewelryrepair might be nice, the garden shop at the oldCrossings building couldn’’t make it.
1860284 Bookstore
1860285 Please! - No butcher! I’’ll put my house on the market tomorrow!used/alternative bookstorehardware storegood coffee shop.... I don’’t think the options we have meet the barfull service grocery store (butcher can go there if need be!)true thrift storequotbasicquot clothing store (be that Gap or whatever) - I accept that with new dense housing on the way, we can choose to embrace and support a Caribou Coffee/Starbuck’’s/etc., Gap, Borders.. or not.Just generally - more things to serve our neighborhood’’s everyday needs. There appear to be far too many gift-shop, pricey fair trade, etc. stores here. I am totally in favor of the above, but only to a point, as I have limited means as do many of my neighbors. I’’d rather drive/Metro to buy gifts a few times a year than drive to buy groceries or go to a great Thai meal a few times a month!
1860288 A butcher wouldn’’t be very green or progressive.
1860300 Other art galleries, other carryout ethnic, book store, cake shop,
1860303 We need a variety store like Bruce Variety in Bethesda!!!!!! Please, someone on this committee, go over there and look around and you will see what I mean! Everything from sewing and arts crafts to household items, wallets, backpacks, school supplies, and socks. (Because I’’m not sure whether the next question on this survey will address this, I’’ll jump ahead here to comment on the current mix of stores.) We have too many quotold hippiequot/second hand stores in Takoma. There I am an old hippie myself but I don’’t need any more patchouli-fragranced garments. I also think it is a shame that Chuck Dave’’s pulled out before Borders came into downtown Silver Spring. I would definitely patronize a store like the quotoldquot Chuck Dave’’s before it switched focus to a kids’’ store. Don’’t get me wrong I did shop there after it changed focus but it was such a great amenity to have a bookstore, albeit with some toys, as a community focal point.
1860319 A book store in the genre of Prose and Politics, A Body Shop, a kennel and/or doggy daycare, Wild Birds Unlimited store, small high quality unique apparel stores (Lucy in Union Station as an example)
1860321 Grocery Store
1860328 Craft shop, independent fabric store (like G St. Fabrics)
1860333 Wine shop, Deli, Children’’s clothing/gear, sporting goods (the new games story does not carry useful sporting goods like cleats, shinguards, ice skates)
1860337 art gallery - we do, afterall, brag about our artist community, but there’’s nowhere to really experience it.
1860375 Supermarket, but the neighbors blew that one.A small garden shop can’’t compete with HoDe’’s and the larger nurseries.
1860402 Garden Shop if it were part of a larger business with Hardware, Tool Library maybe, Renovation Supply, Salvage butcher if it was free range, organic maybe with sustainably harvested fish handmade chocolates and pastries, gourmet breads, specialty cheeses, wide range of wine and beer ions expanded copy/printing business.
1860463 Hardware store
1860465 hardware store.
1860468 Hardware store
1860470 It would be nice to have a coffee shop that was not so run down. As I said earlier, the last time I was in Savory it was so dirty and the food was so stale I’’ve been loathe to go back but maybe I just had a bad experience. It would be nice to have a little book store/coffee shop or more cute little stores to browse. I would walk downtown more frequently. I suspect with the new condos going up more restaurants and shops could be supported. It would be nice to have a hardware store too.
1860475 A Bed Bath Beyond or some other up scale house ware store.
1860488 gourmet foods, wine, and beer
1860514 Small grocer, like Trader Joes or Magruders. Even a Marvelous Market would be better then none.
1860524 Hellooo:What Takoma needs is a quotdestinationquot spot, something other than the above, and not another restaurant at this time. Silver Spring’’s got the Birchmere, bring in a jazz club or something.
1860531 fish marketindependent BOOKSTORE!Record/cd storemartial arts studio
1860545 a real grocery store...not organic, but one that sellsfood that might be bad for you, but that normal peopleenjoy...like chips and soda. Maybe a hardware store.(ps...a shoe repair store? that’’s so 1930’’s!!! youshould add Candlestick Maker to this list while you’’reat it)
1860598 None - definitely not butcher!
1860601 Electronics
1860608 Book store!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1860610 A butcher would be great!! A bakery more like Firehook. A bookstore like Politics and Prose or Chuck and Daves. More mainstream gift shops. I like Now and Then, but we need more variety and things that you can give to someone who is more traditional and conservative. The main problem in TP is that most of the stores sell discretionary items. The clothing is targetted at 20-somethings or very casual offices. There are places to buy interesting, niche gifts, but not things you need everyday.
1860620 Soccer pub, residences
1860635 Drug Store - Last time I was in CVS, it was just crummy, but that was a while back. Out of stock, dirty, not nice.Bath and body shop.Kinkos type place. The one on Carroll and Ethan Allen is inadequate.
1860637 children’’s museum/indoor play area
1860641 hardware storegarden shop should also have low end practical items
1860656 Small upscale grocery store.
1860658 bookstore
1860689 A hardware/garden store would be nice. Or a convenience store located on the ’’main strip’’ of old takoma.
1860711 we miss Chuck and Dave’’s. Bakery like Firehook,eg. no more second hand stores, please
1860712 Bookstore, kitchen store
1860751 hardware store
1860759 Clothing and Shoe Stores
1860767 Small hardware store
1860783 hardware store
1860795 The bagel shop at the center of town seems never to be open in the mornings - it’’d be good to be able to get a bagel on the way to work. Also a salvage shop - a place to by used items for home renovations. And a garden shop that had a good selcetion of native plants.
1860805 Women’’s Clothes and Shoes
1860843 hardware store
1860875 Fresh bagels!
1860882 None of the above. Real good coffee/roaster (I know it’’s heresey to mention a national chain, but Starbucks or an equivalent) bookstore hardware restaurants, restaurants, restaurants.
1860914 Wine store
1861036 Creamery, Book store
1861048 Small Scale Hardware with personalized service (like East-West Hardare Fish Store (like Cameron’’s)
1861066 Hardware store
1861087 Independent Book Store,
1861113 book store (again!) Please no moreantique/consignment stores! Hardware store. More likeNow and Then.
1861125 Dollar Store
1861157 a vegetarian restaurant would also be nice.
1861183 The nearest Verizon Wireless store is in Bethesda.
1861188 hardware/basic household supplies, key maker
1861193 Independent pharmacy
1861260 fishmonger, authentic espress bar, cheese shop,
1861267 knitting store
1861270 decent coffee shop, sundry shop
1861280 hardware, liquor, fish store,
1861290 book store, stationery store. I picked garden store by mistake. Are you kidding about the butcher?
1861291 book music (CD) store, toy store
1861301 bookstoremusic store (classical and jazz)
1861319 Hardware store, Fish Market, Book store, Toy store
1861341 hardware storeart supply storefull service grocery storebeer and wine store
1861365 -NOT AN ANTIQUE/VINTAGE STORE!!!-Seafood-Tailor
1861366 Coffee places like Starbucks, Seafood places, Marshall’’s , Filene’’s, DSW Shoe, Barnes Noble, etc
1861371 more women’’s clothing options than just Amano, Realteen clothes (not Rerun)
1861404 Starbuck’’s Coffee
1861408 a knitting/craft store
1861414 music store,
1861415 Coffee Shop
1861417 A bookstore, a bar, a shoe store for men, and a public bathroom, anywhere.
1861450 alternative to CVS
1861477 Book Toy Store (*sob*)
1861522 coffee shop like Caribou or the place in Silver Spring men’’s clothing cabaret/bar w/ entertainment bookstore local artist gallery
1861655 FishmongerBookstore (I really miss Chuck Dave’’s!)A great Children’’s Toy Store (like Child’’s Play in DC)Someplace that sells underwear (so I don’’t have todrive to Target or Victoria’’s Secret)Children’’s Shoe Store
1861794 Hardware
1861830 Bakery and Butcher offering organic/ all natural products and meats. And not outrageous prices! We are not Bethesda!Other: a nice stationery/card store. A book store (I know that has been tried and didn’’t last, but I think it would be nice. Like Busboys and Poets in DC that would be a great model for a bookstore/restaurant/meeting space.)
1861850 Speciality Grocery, with To-Go/Pre-prepared Items, decent veggies, fruits and meats
1861867 Keep a minimum on the old clothing stores and open bars and restrauants... I would love to put my money back in my community... give me something to spend it on!
1861988 book store
1862061 Used or new Book Store
1862105 theatre, movie, art gallery
1862129 Book store - I loved Chuck and Dave’’s
1862145 toy store, bar, hardware store, childrens’’ thrift shop, women’’s boutique (not used)
1862228 Traditional grocery store (like Harris Teeter)
1862295 Seafood market
1862326 Grocery/Vegetables (something like McGruder’’s orTrader Joe’’s), Hardware store (something likeStroeschniders). We definitely do NOT need anothersecond-hand store or gift shop.
1862421 Toy store, book store
1862516 A neighborhood bar like Busboys and Poets or Temprance Hall (both in DC) or something similar. Also, a hardware store would be nice.
1862529 TP does NOT need another jewelry store - or other similar boutique-y place with limited use items. A garden store that specializes in native plants would be great.
1862573 hardware
1862589 Decent coffee shop- Savory is awful.
1862971 bigger toy storebook store
1862972 Hardware StoreLiquor StoreMovie House (with a stage for entertainment)

1862988 Hardware storeBook storeFlower shopGrocery store
1863177 Bookstore!!!!!
1863422 I would like Takoma Park to be my destination for all my daily affairs, to have a few eateries to invite friends from Downtown DC and to purchase some nice men’’s + children’’s clothing if possible
1863656 a place to have tea
1863698 hardware store, watch repair
1863814 Book Store
1863841 store to showcase local art/pottery/crafts, etc. wehave so many great artists in the area, but no placeto purchase their wares
1863918 A kid-friendly tavern or pub, irish style.
1863930 Add Fish Monger to Butcher. But the meat must be certified humanely and organically small farm raised. We HAD (have?one is still hanging on by the figher nails I think) two garden shops and they failed. Both Cleaners already do shoe repairAmano could offer space to an immigrant cobbler. We NEED a wine store with tastings etc. I love the Liquor store by the Metro but they are low on good wines. A good gymand one that doesn’’t support Anti-Abortion and Right Wing causes (like Curves does). A World Market - The Culture Shop is too expensive and not enought ionWe need a Movie Theatre CineplexDestination Retail and Dining
1863963 book store, Harris Teeter, clothes,
1863979 used book store
1864046 Grocery store
1864068 Strosnider’’s Hardware
1864112 Small Gourmet Foods shop
1864206 Seafood store.
1864214 Yarn store
1864276 bookstoregood toy storeknitting store
1864366 NewstandPool hall (smoke-free)Babysitting -off for mothers who need to run errandsMom Pop convenience store
1864597 Grocery Store
1864626 bookstore
1864778 small pharmacy I *HATE* CVS but sometimes that’’s my only option (if I need it ASAP, need to be able to walk to get it). I would never go there again if there was a pharmacy in the neighborhood. I’’d walk up to a mile or take the bus to get there.
1864919 Knitting and Needle Craft store, multi-service beauty salon like Aveda, Radio Shack, Outdoor adventure like REI, a toy store like Child’’s Play,
1864922 book store
1864940 Book Storehardware storeGym
1864942 arts and crafts supply storepet supply storefabric/notions shopgeneral store type shopbeauty supply storeshoe store
1864993 more fair trade shops!
1865187 Fresh Fish
1865267 Tavern still most important.
1865588 Bakery if it was a real bakery garden shop if itwould also carry bird seed. We really need a birdseed source in TP
1865971 Bookstore
1866036 Book Store, Pub, Non-Vintage Clothing store
1866538 Home furnishings
1866563 A really good coffee shop, deli/italian prepared foods home/kitchen store
1866716 home furnishings/housewareshardware
1866878 hardware store, grocery store besides the coop.
1866994 Book Store
1867015 Hardware store
1867259 Hardware store, sewing shop
1867379 hardware store, newsstand, sporting goods store, bike shop that isn’’t nasty and overpriced
1867567 Childrens store, book store, anything that is NOT a chain
1867570 SupermarketI know this is controversial, but I would like very much to be able to walk to a supermarket a Wegman’’s or something of this style would be wonderful.
1867786 The single thing I would want the most is a greengrocer that also sells fish/meat that is convenientlylocated near the Metro so I could stop each night onmy way home and buy fresh products for dinner. I thinksuch a place would make a mint. It owuld not have tobe big (e.g., see the small grocers in New York City).Particularly given the success of Whole Foods, themargins at the Coop, and the foot traffic coming offthe Metro, I am mystified that no one has opened oneon Carroll Avenue or other nearby streets (e.g, thepet store location would have been a perfect locationfor such a business).
1867810 Hardware store
1867888 Greeting card shop,variety store
1867899 More clothing stores and A BOOKSTORE!!
1868048 book store
1868136 music store (cds)
1868173 My 1 wish is a nice wine store, that has winetastings and a variety of prices. Or even a cafe likethis that has bottles of wine for sale to pick up onthe way home from the metro. A butcher next door tothe wine store would be FAB.
1868239 book, magazine shop
1868255 Pub, cheese shop, wine shop, clothing boutiques
1868266 hardware store, kids shoe store, GROCERY STORE!
1868282 Place to buy greeting cards, small gifts, stationery... Now Then does this in some ways, but the ion of greeting cards is rather small. CVS has greeting cards, but they’’re of the boring Hallmark variety. It’’d be great to have an actual jeweler in town, i.e., someone who could repair as well as sell jewelry, but I’’m not sure our little town could support such a business.
1868341 Hardware storeGrocery store (alternative to coop with things you cant get there, but smaller than safeway)
1868441 A good wine, cheese, bread store. A decent florist. A good bakery. The trouble is we have some of these and the businesses are mediocre at best.
1868458 Hardware store (may not be sustainable with Strosnider’’s so close)Bookstore (a la Chuck and Dave’’s, but less crowded) Toys, children’’s clothsSeafood store (may not be a realistic option - same with butcher)
1868466 Books, newspapers
1868468 Trader Joe’’s
1868469 Good tailorhardware
1868493 Tailor
1868513 We don’’t need more boutiques. We need stores that provide needed services, like a grocery, hardware, bookstore, natural food and vitamin store.
1868545 bookstorecafe with free wi-fi internet
1868560 Harris Teeter
1868565 book store,
1868571 Wine and cheese store
1868574 Bakery, if included items made with rice flour (no wheat!)Butcher, if included meat from pastured animals
1868605 book store, either new or second hand.
1868629 Book store
1868647 Sorry, this should go in the restaurant section:BREWPUB!!!
1868948 Bookstore
1869167 jazz music venue (like Sangha but as part of a cafe)
1869188 office supplies, day spa
1869212 Microbrewery, Wine Coffee Shop/RestaurantToy store
1869393 Surpise me
1869464 I love Takoma Park as it reminds me of Berkeley, CA (where I used to live). I love the tpss food coop but perhaps other cooperatives like a cheese coop or pizza coop (see CheeseBoard Cooperative in Berkeley) - maybe a juice collective too.
1869959 book store
1870209 Hardware StoreFood Market
1870478 a friendly bar with good wine ion, appetizers various music options - with a completely separatekid/family area
1870726 Kid’’s Consignment/Boutique
1870793 Books, of course.
1871163 Art supply/book store (used or new)/wine store
1872450 1. A BOOKSTORE!!! (I’’m still amazed that Takoma Park doesn’’t have a real bookstore or better yet, a bookstore/cafe) 2. A pub3. A spa4. A gym5. Hardware store
1873194 Antique shops Bring back the Underground!
1873424 day spahair nail salonhealing arts. cd, books, workshops,
1874000 Trader Joe’’s
1874383 I would love to see literally a Politics and Prose bookstore and a Child’’s play toy store- if they would bring even mini-versions out here that would be fantastic. I’’d love to see a Behnke’’s express, a way to buy from them w/o making that trek. Maybe a craft store, more like michael’’s, but small. Other interesting independants that reflect unique destination-type businesses.
1874557 All of this, and more is readily available quite close.
1874918 cheese shop
1876131 We need something that is an attraction to consumers from outside of Takoma Park, but also consistent with the character of Takoma Park. I’’d like to see a quotGreen Business Centerquot including food, housing materials, plant/landscaping, energy, construction. We could also include some other cutting edge local economy like a credit union. Also, we need office space to have people in town during the day. I’’d suggest a non-profit advocacy center for progressive non-profits that provides the groups some common services, e.g. a tv/radio studio where groups can produce their own shows (perhaps takoma cable could be involved), an auditorium and meeting rooms so groups can hold events.
1876311 Coffee Shop - I would even be ok with a starbucks! nail shop would not corrupt the town, nor would a scled back quotfive and dimequot like Bruce’’s in Bethesda
1878743 Hardware store, bookstore
1878751 Bookstore, pub, cafe
1879086 radical bookstore
1879324 Italian deli, a family-friendly pub
1882589 none
1884888 Hardware StoreTrader Joes or move Food Coop Downtown
1885623 Aerobics studio! The now-empy Taliano’’s would be great - no pillars! More restrooms are needed now. Also, better signs for pedestrians on both sides of border. More Flexcars/Zipcars, we use Flexcar in Takoma now.Cab stand at Metro station. No cutbacks in bus service.
1890948 Day spa/high end nail salon or even a great hair salon (i.e. clean and appealing!)A butcher would be great but unlikely - look at the fuss about the co-op selling meat. How about a great deli? The coop is fine for granola but what about a Marvelous Market?
1891796 Seafood market mid-century modern furniture consigment
1891802 Hardware

1898073 Delicatessen Independent Prescription DrugstoreMarket that sells everyday items Inexpensive GroceryStore (could be TPSS but isn’’t) Hardware store/ToolCo-op (we have the makings of one already and it isnot downtown for some reason) Moderate-size Recordstore (HMT would welcome it, and one is beingdisplaced from Silver Spring) Mexican or Jamaicanplace (none nearby, despite ethnic makeup of area)Art supply/office supply store Medium-size Bookstorenear Metro (to replace Chuck and Daves a perfectspace is available next to the Metro entrance, but therent is too high)

1915446 Bookstore!
1915495 Books/office supplies/newspapers Trover Shop on Capitol Hill is an example. I don’’t need an office superstore for most of my needs.
1918024 Anything other than another resale shop...PLEASE!
1918119 Book shop - first choiceClothing shop (but not vintage - those do not appeal to me)
1918717 A clothing store or shoe store that has professional and trendy NEW clothing for women and men. No more resale please. Tempt me away from Macy’’s and Bennetton.

1924735 I miss having a good bookstore, with friendly andknowledgeable staff
1924741 more restaurant choices, PLEASE!
1924762 Hardware Store, Toy Store, Grocery Store

1927566 electronics (radio shack kind of place)
1928108 Marvelous Market-type place bookstore but really, more varied restaurants.
1928323 1. Big box book and music store2. Freshfields style grocery store with beer and wine sales3. National chain childrens store4. National chain furniture store5. Ace Hardware store
1929474 a more diverse business base w/ a mix of the current vintage-type shopping and other shops that have new items (clothes, books, toys).
1931677 Hardware store!Good liquor/wine storeGood general bookstore
1932787 Small discount fresh vegetable Grocery stores like aMagruders, Sniders or Rodman’’s (Wisc. Ave.)
1938003 It would be great if some place sold magazines, newspapers and CDs (other than folk) as part of theirbusiness. Especially if you could hang out there andread, drink coffee. (sounds like an add on forSavory... can I just say here that much as I like thelive music on Friday nights, I wish the food wasbetter. It’’s the only place in town that can’’t eventoast a bagelno really. burned and too much butter.I was flabbergasted.)Maybe one of the dry cleaners could start repairingshoes. We could also use a better wine storethe place onCedar by the Metro isn’’t very good. Though it might behard to compete with the places in Silver Spring andMorris Miller. Again, perhaps it could be a niche/sidebusiness for a merchant downtown, along with goodcheese, bread.
1951061 Hardware Store
1955617 toy store, nail shop, books
1970626 a place to buy children’’s clothes. There are all sorts of funky clothes stores in TP but no place to buy socks and underwear!
