we have a nice florist already, they should be better known and promoted. The Boathouse on Cedar Avenue should be an Inn, the only Guest House in downtown Takoma Park is scary. Bookstore/coffeehouse, Dance Hall, Nightlife. No chains please. Keep up the Antiques and Funky Local Stuff. Prevail on the landlords to stop being such greedy vampires! How can anyone stay in business with such high rents!

God, a bookstore would be great, but the used bookshopclosed, and let’’s be real that the Borders and Amazoncompetition couldn’’t support one. Although if it weremodeled on Kramerbooks, maybe so...?A wine store would be lovely.See prior answer for Radio Shack and kids-play-area something like that would also bring people fromsurrounding areas. The toy store closed, but I’’d think that TP might nowbe able to support something like that...? Who knows.

yes! any and all stores that would make this more of adowntown would be great. i would love to walk to anarea, be able to bring my guests for a strolldowntown, shop locally... The craft store is nice, ilove the music store, amano, now and again (is thatthe right name?). and i like that vintage place downby takoma junction, and wish it were in downtown. (ifonly we could fill the deadspace between the firestation and the coop, we could link the two ends oftown...)

See my response to the previous question. People in TP have proven that they won’’t support a bookstore or a garden center. People living in houses that sell for 600K acting as if they still live in a commune at Berkeley (i.e. thinking that prices at Colorado Kitchen are too high, when in fact Gillian Welch is a trained chef, not a short order cook, who uses high-end ingredients) bug the crap out of me. As long as this attitude holds sway in Takoma, no business will want to open there.

Gee had I seen this question I would not have needed to write so much on the last one. A nice wine store, a bagel shop, a nice hardware store like Logan Hardware would be great. Another restaurant that I enjoy that might fit into downtown TP is Red Dog Cafe in SS.

I’’d love a good wine store that did tastings and wine education, but that’’s hard in Montgomery County. Bookstore would be awesome. With Stoschneider’’s so close, I dont’’ think we could support another niche hardware store.Maybe an electronic repair place. Wine store yes! perhaps a wine and cheese store. Flower shop yes, but don’’t we have one? Again, not outrageous prices.Bagel shop yes, along with good coffee/teas. But I don’’t know if there would be enough business to compete with Savory and Mike’’s Summer Delights. Bookstore I already commented on previously.Other there is an amazing Spice Shop in Evanston, IL that I frequent whenever I am there. I think that type of store might do well in Takoma Park.

There is a good wine store in Silver Spring alreadyand we are very close to the DC line where MorrisMiller, etc. congregate. The liquor store at theMetro, despite its appearance, is known for ionalso. If we’’re going to take a chance on a competitivemarket for a product we really, really want, let’’sturn the Tool library into a hardware co-op, and forman alliance with the other two nearby small hardwarestores (East-West and Piney Branch, which benefit frombeing in areas where lots of construction workerslive). If Brookland can support one, so can we. Wehave a good flower shop that is one of the oldestbusinesses in Takoma Park, so that’’s covered. A bagelshop would work best if it were a delicatessen (few inthe DC area, untouched market) instead of a crappy inand out joint like Einstein or or other coffee chains. Most important, some competition in the Grocery/DrugStore would be nice and would keep people downtown.

I’’d like to see a combination destination... like agood niche bookstore that also had pool tables, and anexpresso and wine bar. Where you could also buy abottle of wine, good cheese and bread, and maybe abunch of flowers. Kind of like Miorga, but minus thenoise and bad service and plus books, pool tables andsome other good things to do and buy. Maybe a room orspace for people to play video or computer gamestogether. I would want it to be a destination forteenagers, but a place where adults their parents agealso felt comfortable. Which is the way Miorga is.
