I’’m drawn to the charming character and variety ofshops. I find that I like to browse in a number ofnice places and then get some food at a charming placeto eat. Takoma Park in MD is close to right, but alittle too thinly spread out. If the corrider fromthe Metro up Carrol to Laurel had more shops, then wecould get the critical mass that would make it feellike a destination. Also, we need good signageshowing people where to go and where to park. Myfriend commented that Takoma Park is the onlycommunity that hides it’’s shops. Driving along 410 orPiney Branch one would never know where downtownTakoma Park is.

I can walk to get things I need and want. There is avariety of goods and servicesnot just umpteenvintage/used clothing stores. There is a vibrancy anddiversity in scale and type of establishment thatserves more than one type of person. Places are uniquean independently owned. Streetscape is pedestrianfriendly and cars actually stop when people arewaiting in cross walksa real problem in TP!
